Romantic Forest Photos in Costa Rica

One of the best things about planning an elopement or destination wedding in Costa Rica is that the experience does not have to end after the ceremony. For Charmaine and Chris, they chose to separate their wedding day from their adventure session, allowing them to fully slow down and enjoy both experiences individually.

On the days after an elopement, the couple headed into the mountains near La Fortuna for a completely different kind of photo session. Instead of timelines, guests, or formalities, the day focused entirely on exploring together and creating space to experience Costa Rica’s natural beauty in a relaxed and meaningful way.

The session began along the hanging bridges and forest trails, surrounded by towering trees, misty greenery, and soft mountain air. While many people immediately think of beaches when they imagine Costa Rica weddings, the rainforest areas near Arenal offer an entirely different atmosphere. The scenery feels cinematic and peaceful, with winding pathways, dramatic foliage, and quiet moments tucked beneath the canopy. It creates an incredibly romantic setting for couples wanting something adventurous without feeling overly extreme.

Charmaine’s flowing gown and soft curls moved beautifully through the forest landscape, creating photos that felt elegant while still connected to the natural environment around them. Some of the most memorable moments came from simply wandering together through the trails, stopping on the hanging bridges, and soaking in the scenery without rushing from one location to the next.

The second half of the session brought them to one of Costa Rica’s iconic waterfalls for a more adventurous experience. The combination of rushing water, giant rock formations, misty air, and lush greenery created an unforgettable backdrop for portraits. These waterfall sessions are popular for couples visiting La Fortuna because they allow you to embrace the adventurous side of Costa Rica while still creating incredibly romantic imagery.

One of the biggest advantages of scheduling a separate waterfall or rainforest shoot after the wedding day is flexibility. Couples are able to choose a completely different atmosphere and location without adding stress or travel time to the wedding timeline itself. It also creates an additional shared experience during the trip rather than feeling like the celebration is over once the ceremony ends.

For couples considering a Costa Rica destination wedding or elopement, adding a separate adventure session can completely transform the overall experience. Whether exploring hanging bridges, chasing waterfalls, or wandering through the rainforest together, these quieter post-wedding moments often become some of the most meaningful memories of the entire trip.

My favorite thing about destination weddings is watching all of the guests explore a new place! I, myself, love learning more about this tropical paradise. I also really enjoy how every single event is completely different and really reflects the couple and their love story.
