Carmen & Colin were married at a romantic Llanos del Cortes waterfalls elopement. This dreamy location is in Guanacaste, Costa Rica up in the northern part of the country. Costa Rica has quite a few wonderful waterfalls scattered throughout the country but not as many up in the northwestern area. This region of the country is known to be more flat and dry, not exactly ideal conditions for a waterfall. So this one is really special and logistically perfect for a wedding or elopement!
The Llanos de Cortez Waterfall is located near the town of Bagaces which is half an hour from the Liberia international airport. It is also only a 2-hour scenic drive from famous beaches like Playa Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo, Playa Conchal, and Playa Hermosa. Also if you are headed over from the mountains of La Fortuna or Monteverde it is easy to stop on the way!
Access to this beautiful location is also fairly easy, within the past few years they have created sturdy steps with handrails to make the 5-minute hike down even easier - making it easily walkable in your wedding attire or for guests.
From the top of the parking lot you can hear the waterfall like a slight roar, which gets you really excited to see all of the magic below. The waterfall is nestled in a thick forest with plenty of wildlife all around. You are sure to catch a glimpse of some native animals - so keep your eyes and ears open!
At the bottom of the steps you’ll see one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful waterfalls in all of its glory. The falls are quite large. They are wide with thin and whispy streams of water pouring over the mossy rocks into a nice pool that is good for swimming. There is also a little sandy area to just hang out and relax in the sun or in our case, create a wonderful ceremony.
For the ceremony we crafted a mandala on the ground for their ceremony, to complement the beauty of the environment and to add a touch of color. It was a great earthy vibe to contrast this bride's edgy attire. She truly rocked her look!
After the intimate I do and soaking in the views, the couple headed to the shore for a romantic stroll at Hermosa Beach.
Natalia, the photographer, did such an amazing job with capturing the light perfectly and with the tones on these photos. It was a challenge to trim the photos down to just these few as the entire collection is every bit as stunning.
Congratulations Carmen & Colin! We can't wait to see what adventures await you.
I was totally thrilled when I came across Mil Besos last year. I am not a planner myself, so I was relieved to find somebody who could plan not only my wedding but my entire wedding getaway, from the legalities to wedding vendors, hotels, and excursions. Meghan Cox was super friendly and responsive right from the start, but I guess my touch of inner-pessimism was holding out for some sort of hiccup. Well, I just returned from Costa Rica last weekend and I can tell you that throughout the entire six months of planning, through to my return home, there was not one single hiccup!
During the planning stages, Meghan was very knowledgeable and insightful. She took into account our wishes but made suggestions and gave lots of good advice. The wedding itself was seamless.
The coordinator, hair/makeup artist, and chauffeur showed up at our hotel when they were supposed to and each provided excellent service. My bouquet was beautiful and just as I had discussed with Catalina, as was the ceremony space set up next to the waterfall where we were married. Our amazing photographers met us there and followed us back to the beach after the ceremony, and my husband and I had time for a celebratory glass of wine before we made our way to the restaurant where Meghan has made us reservations. Everything just went perfectly to plan.
I would highly recommend Meghan and the Mil Besos team to anyone who wants an easy, romantic wedding in beautiful Costa Rica!
