If you are in the midst of planning your tropical destination wedding and wondering how to pick the proper wedding attire, you’re in the right place! Since we’ve covered the how to choose the perfect tropical wedding dress, now we’ll tackle the grooms’ aesthetic. We know you want your big day to be perfect, and that includes choosing the right attire that suits the location, the season, and the vibe of your wedding. Here are our top tips for picking the perfect groom attire for your destination wedding:
Material
When considering the material of the groom’s attire, you’ll want something that is lightweight and breathable yet still durable. If you’re getting married on the beach, you may opt for natural fabrics like linen, cotton, or hemp, which are lightweight and moisture-wicking, to keep cool and comfortable in the tropical heat.
Weight
For a warm or tropical destination, you might go for a lighter weight suit or blazer, or even skip the jacket altogether. A linen suit jacket paired with dress shorts or pants is a great option for a groom’s beach wedding.
Versatility
When choosing your groom attire, you’ll want to consider if you want to be able to wear in the future for different occasions. Consider investing in a suit or blazer that can be dressed up or down with different accessories. You can also mix and match different pieces of clothing to create different looks. For instance, pair a blazer with jeans or chinos trousers or chinos for a casual look, or a vest with slacks for a more formal style.
Color
Consider the color scheme of your wedding when choosing the groom’s attire. Lighter colors like beige, light gray, and pastels are perfect for a beach wedding. You may want to avoid darker colors like black or navy, which will absorb heat. Instead, opt for those lighter colors to reflect the sun and keep you cool throughout the day. – We have a soft spot for grooms in unique colorful suits, it’s just so fun!
Comfortable Shoes
Your wedding day is going to be a long one, so it’s important to choose comfortable shoes that will keep your feet happy throughout the day. Consider opting for loafers, boat shoes, or dress sandals that are both stylish and comfortable.
Accessorize
Accessories are a great way to reflect your unique personality and style. Feel free to play with different patterns and textures to add some flair to your attire! Consider adding a vibrant colored bowtie or fun socks to add pops of color. A pocket square or boutonniere in the same color as complementing the bride’s bouquet is always a nice touch.
Be Prepared! – Tips for Tropical Wedding Groom Attire
One added suggestion – as Costa Rica is a tropical climate, it’s smart to consider bringing a second dress shirt and undershirt in case the first ones get a bit too sweaty! After the ceremony and photos, it can be more comfortable to have a fresh shirt to wear when sitting down for dinner.
Aside from the sweat factor, it’s nice to be prepared with a backup shirt just in case of unexpected stains or damage before or during the wedding. Most weddings take place on the coastlines that are hours away from the nearest formal or semi-formal clothing store so finding a replacement is an impossible task.
And we suggest putting your second shirt in a different bag than your first bag, as an extra precaution. In the unlikely case of lost luggage – you might as well have the two shirts in two different bags!
