Playas del Coco is located in the province of Guanacaste, on the Northern coast of Costa Rica. It is one of the oldest beach communities and is also one of the fastest-growing tourism areas in Costa Rica. Playas del Coco is located approximately 20 miles away from Liberia, the largest city and airport hub in Guanacaste. This makes it a great location for large international guest lists. Playas del Coco, like most towns in the north, stays dry most of the year but it still rains in the peak wet season.
Coco has become the hub of tourism and business because of the rapidly expanding infrastructure in the area. However, it has a more intimate vibe compared to beaches such as Tamarindo. The town is centrally located so the tourist can visit both beaches from the north and south. Two famous beaches in this area are Coco and Ocotal. Coco has this dark tan sand and calmer water since it is sheltered within the cove while Ocotal has this unique charcoal black sand and is popular for scuba diving and sport fishing.
