This year we have started creating a custom wedding mood board for each of our full service planning clients in the initial planning stages. We have always had inspiration images and color palettes in mind initially but previously we have pulled the ideas together in a Design Proposal. This added step earlier in planning has enabled us to be sure the venue and vendor selections are all contributing to the vibe of the event.
To get inspired to create your custom wedding mood board, we first ask questions about your love story and preferences – everything from clothes and food to vacations. We also browse your Pinterest, if you have one.
We use your Pinterest to get a sense of your vibe, interests, what colors you like, what draws your eye, what excites you, what inspires you, etc! Pinterest boards can also show us a bit about your priorities right from the start. If you are floral focused, music-focused, food-focused, that will shine through on your board. We will then budget in the best way to ensure your dream wedding is exactly what you envision.
Most of the time couples do come to us with Pinterest boards. However, some couples are not as interested in creating this, or simply too busy! Don’t worry, our planning and design team will create one for you!
We turn all of the ideas that you love on Pinterest and transform it into a design that is completely unique to you! We are not here to copy an existing wedding, we want to create a custom design for you. So we step away from all of your gathered inspiration and create a mood board to stop looking at literal images and get the imagination going! The mood board is to identify a vibe, a feeling, a sense of color palette, etc. We love seeing a full array of your tastes to start designing. This way we can pull in little details that really make the day custom to you!
We use that mood board to draw inspiration in creating ideas in the design proposal. After the design proposal is perfect, we move on to procuring vendors to accomplish those plans. We create the specific orders and also arrange a floral trial mockup to ensure every detail is right. In this part of the planning process, we focus on the specific items and details.
Another advantage of creating a great mood board, it helps give examples to show to vendors that you really love! This really cuts down on communication time and streamlines the design process. A picture is worth a thousand words right?
An extra tip: A fun bonding moment that we suggest is to plan a date night with your partner and create a physical mood board too! Grab some scissors, magazines, and poster boards to create something you can hang in your home to stay inspired throughout the design process.
We are going to share a series of mood boards soon, a project using our past events as inspiration! Stay tuned on our Instagram for sneak peeks along the way.
